Dealership Copes with Credit Challenges
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Alameda Boulevard is quickly becoming a new auto sales row as J.D. Byrider recently opened its second dealership in Albuquerque to serve the north side of the city.
The first one opened locally in 1979.
A national company with more 170 outlets across the country that is franchised locally by the Tillery dealerships in Los Lunas and Moriarty, J.D. Byrider is a user-car lot that specializes in helping get people into vehicles they can afford to help repair credit scores, said Vince Galvez, sales manager.
Galvez had been with the company for about 10 years after a career in retail sales.
“I started as a sales person and moved up,” he said. “I’ve made a good living at it.”
A Manzano graduate who played baseball and basketball for the Monarchs, Galvez said the company has served one million people in the last 25 years.
Vehicles are inspected on 92 points, computer checked and reconditioned before being sold, he said.
And that’s important not only for the safety of the buyer, but because the company includes two-year warranties on its vehicles, Galvez said.
“And we finance according to your budget,” he said. “If you can’t make a payment we help you so things are right. We also have low down payments so we can get you into a vehicle.”
The in-house financing also allows buyers with shaky credit to get into a vehicle because it relies on the current financial situation of the buyers, not past credit issues, Galvez said.
And the dealership even helps out those rare few who can’t qualify, he said, by providing a step-by-step plan to be able to qualify in the future.
Loans for the vehicles, which are usually 2005 to 2012 models, generally don’t longer than 3½ years, Galvez said, meaning more than half of the life of the loan is covered under warranty.
“We want people to have good, reliable transportation and to be able to repair their credit so that they will eventually be able to move up and get into a new car,” he said. Dealership copes with credit challenges.
